Mixdown : Export Audio Mix Options : Bit Depth

Bit Depth
This setting lets you select between three different bit depths for the export conversion. Note that Export Audio Mix does not apply dither when converting during or after an export to a lower resolution. If you need to export to a lower resolution file, use a dither plug-in on a Master Fader track assigned to the selected Mixdown Source. This dithers the exported file, before the Export Audio Mix conversion truncates the exported file to the selected bit depth resolution. (See “Using Dither” on page 815).
The following Bit Depth options are available:
16-Bit
This is the Compact Disc standard bit resolution.
24-Bit
This setting provides the highest resolution that is compatible with most audio interfaces. It is useful when you want to create a final mix without losing any resolution (for example, if you are delivering a final mix that will be ready to master).
32-Bit Float
This setting provides the highest resolution for internal Pro Tools | First mixing and plug-in processing. It is useful when you want to export and re-import loops and sound effects into your project, or when you are exchanging files between projects.
To set the resolution of the exported file:
*Select a bit depth from the Bit Depth selector.
